Chemistry is like your fun friend who you want to go on a road trip with where she’s just wild and comes up with crazy things and you’re like, Man, it’s so fun to have her and you just never know what she’s going to do. That’s chemistry. It’s fun. It has pizzazz. It adds, you know, just a zing to your relationship. Here’s the thing. That fun friend who you definitely want on that road trip, you definitely want to hang out with. You definitely want to see what she’s coming up with and stuff like that. You don’t want her running that road trip. You don’t want her driving at day or night or stuff like that. You don’t want her in charge. And it’s the same thing with chemistry. You want chemistry in the car, you just don’t want chemistry driving the car. And the more you focus on chemistry, the more you feel a reaction to what I’m saying right now, the more you need to put chemistry not just in the backseat, but in that third row seat in the minivan where it’s like way back there. And when chemistry is talking, you’re like, what? What? I can’t hear. You got to talk louder. The more you say I have to have chemistry with someone, the more you need to relegate chemistry to the backseat.

Speaker2: [00:01:38] Not because chemistry is an important, but because you’re putting way too much focus on chemistry. And the reason why a lot of people put too much focus on chemistry is because they have no other decision making process by which to evaluate whether this person is a good person or not. So they default to chemistry. But you know what? You look at your own life and think, has chemistry led me astray in the past? And the more you answer yes to yes, chemistry has led me astray in the past. The more you need to find new decision making structures and new decision making frameworks around how you even evaluate a potential partner you want to be looking at. I mean, I can do it generally now, but we have whole sections in our courses and programs about it. But you want to be looking at shared values, you want to be looking at how you feel when you’re around him. This is important. A lot of women don’t even think about this. How do you feel when you’re around him? Is he asking questions about you? Is he interested in your life? A lot of times when we’ll say, no, he’s not interested in my life, but then I ask them about their life and they go, Well, I’m doing the same old, same old every day.

Speaker2: [00:02:47] If you’re not interested in your life. He can’t be interested in your life. Right. But you want to be looking at that. Is he expressing interest in you, in your life, in your hopes and dreams? Does he seem to take your hopes and dreams seriously? You want to know how you’re going to attract a guy who takes your hopes and dreams seriously. You take your hopes and dreams seriously, right? Things like that. So these are some examples of things that will help you make better decisions because chemistry can’t be the deciding factor. In fact, the more chemistry has led you astray, you actually want to ignore chemistry at first. Obviously chemistry has to be there. I feel as in love with Laura, both mentally, emotionally, physically. I think she’s beautiful. All of those things. I’m extremely attracted to her and this is after 18 years together. So chemistry has to be there, but it can’t be driving the car, it can’t be running the show. It can’t be your main decision making process. And the evidence that it doesn’t work is you look at your own life and see how chemistry has led you astray. Hey, thanks for tuning in to today’s episode.
